People often ask us "How did you come up with 'Baby Chewie' as a name?".   Well, this is a long story that we will now tell.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...just kidding.  Actually, it was August 16th as SmoothMom and myself were at the Ocean Club eating Lobster Tails celebrating our second wedding anniversary.  We had found out the month prior that Smooth was pregnant, which gave us a long needed rest after having tried for a year almost to the day.

The main topic of our conversation turned towards baby names.  Well, if the baby turned out to be a girl, that would have been much easier.  We had picked out at least four names with middle names that we both agreed upon.  However, if it was a boy, we would have some issues, as we could not decide or agree on any name suggested.

What SmoothMom really liked, I really disliked.  What I liked, SmoothMom would laugh and say "Not a chance".  Impasse!  Heck, we were very close to renaming the dog because we really liked Kosh, but this caused an ethical issue with SmoothMom.  Even Seth, our waiter, gave us some good ideas (including Seth), but nothing would sound right.

Finally, a happily frustrated mother-to-be, stated "Oh heck, let's name him Chewbacca Bogie!"  I thought this was pretty cool that she would suggest this knowing how much I like sci-fi, especially Star Wars.  So of course I agreed, even though I figured that she was joking.  Which apparently, she was.

Well, I told everybody that "Chewbacca Bogie" was what we were going to name our baby if it was a boy, which we found out he was that very next month.  With this new information, I started "The Baby Chewie" page and spread the word that his name would be Chewbacca Bogie.

Now this is starting to irritate SmoothMom, but the relatives love it  and are spreading his name like wildfire!  SmoothMom insisted that she did not come up with this name (later confessed up) and did not want to refer to the new baby as "Chewie".  So the hunt for a real name went underway, including within this web site with the Name Game section.  (Note:  do not irritate a pregnant woman for very long, or you will suffer worse in the long run)

We finalized on Zachary Steven less than two days before we was born (13 days early), however, the damage had been done.  The nurses at the hospital, grandparents, Aunts, Co-workers, and yes...even his mother still refer to him on occasion as Chewie.  Some folks cannot even remember his real name, or hesitate to remember.

He has now been officially named Zachary Steven, but will forever be known as our Baby Chewie!

***Update 1-12-2001***  Now at 10 months old, everyone is still calling him "Chewie"...Including his mother :)

***Update 4-15-2001*** Little over a year and the damage is done.  Chewie is hanging out more with the dogs, has a little chest hair, and is roaring like a wookie.   Oh ya, everyone still calls him "Chewie".
